Tamarindo
Warm Pacific swell, villa-to-wave jetski pickup, and tow crews on call
The ski pulls you straight off the sand in front of your villa at first light, and ten minutes later you are whipping into warm, long-period Pacific swell with nobody else out. Tamarindo has quietly become the densest towfoil hub outside Portugal, with dedicated expedition crews, multiple skis, and wave options in every direction. You foil until your legs give out, then eat ceviche fifty meters from where you landed.
Plan this tripSeason
Year-round. The Pacific delivers swell in every month.
Best months
December through April for offshore mornings, glassy water, and reliable dry-season logistics.
Level
Intermediate to advanced. You should be comfortable riding a foil behind a ski and linking turns on open faces. Strong prone or wing foilers making the jump to tow can be accommodated with the right guide setup.
The water
Conditions
Tamarindo faces a Pacific that never really switches off. Long-period south and northwest swells arrive year-round, breaking over sand and reef along the Guanacaste coast in water around 82F. Most days serve chest-to-overhead open-face rollers rather than hollow slabs, which is exactly what a towfoiler wants: long, connectable walls with room to pump between sections. Dry season brings offshore mornings; green season adds size and empties the lineups.
Who it's for
Is this your trip?
Foilers who want volume: multiple sessions a day, warm water, and a full support crew, without the cold-water logistics of Europe. Also well suited to small groups and couples, since per-person rates drop meaningfully at three or more riders.

Our take
Why we love it
- ◆ Deepest towfoil infrastructure in the Americas: multiple crews, skis, and coastlines
- ◆ 82F water means long sessions with no wetsuit fatigue
- ◆ Jetski pickup from the beach in front of your villa
- ◆ Two skis and two guides per expedition, video review included
- ◆ Swell every month of the year, with a dry-season sweet spot
The standout operation here runs two skis and two guides per expedition out of Tamarindo, with video included and villa partnerships that put the pickup right on your beach. Costa Rica has more working tow crews than anywhere outside Portugal, so we match you to the right one for your dates and level.
