La Ventana

Warm Sea of Cortez rollers, jetski tows, and easy winter logistics in Baja

You slide off the back of the ski into warm Sea of Cortez water, the desert hills glowing behind the beach. The driver eases the rope tight, you pop onto foil, and a long, glassy roller carries you down the bay. La Ventana is where tow foiling feels friendly: warm, forgiving, and running all winter.

Plan this trip

Season

November through March, when the El Norte winter wind pattern is running

Best months

December to February

Level

First-timers through intermediate. Ideal for your first tow sessions and for wing or kite foilers adding downwind skills. Riders chasing size should look at our wave destinations instead.

The water

Conditions

The Sea of Cortez serves flat water to rolling wind swell rather than true ocean surf. That is exactly why it works: clean tow lanes, soft landings, and endless small bumps to link once you are up. Water stays warm through winter and the breeze fills in most afternoons from November to March. This is a place to learn the tow, dial your pump, and cross over into downwind foiling, not to chase big waves.

Who it's for

Is this your trip?

Foilers who want warm water, low consequence, and lots of reps. It also suits couples and mixed-level groups, since the same beach delivers world-class winging and kiting on the days you are not towing.

Our take

Why we love it

  • Warm, forgiving water for your first tow flights
  • Endless small rollers for pump and downwind practice
  • Headset coaching while you ride, not shouted from the ski
  • Direct flights to nearby airports and a short, easy transfer
  • World-class winging and kiting on the same beach

Tow supply here is session-based rather than packaged. The standout operation runs jetski tow foil sessions with headset coaching from the main beach, and a second school offers tow lessons nearby, so we book around availability and wind.

Logistics

Getting there

Airport

La Paz (LAP) is about 45 minutes away; San Jose del Cabo (SJD) about 2.5 hours with more international connections.

Stay

Beachfront casitas, small hotels, and rental homes line the bay; most sit within walking distance of the launch.

The plan

Fly into LAP or SJD, then a straightforward highway transfer to La Ventana. Rental car is handy but not required; we can arrange transfers.
