Fuerteventura
Atlantic swell, volcanic reefs, and winter sun four hours from home
The ski idles off Lajares while a clean North Atlantic line stacks up over black volcanic reef. You take the rope, release into the face, and ride energy that started somewhere off Greenland. Fuerteventura is where European towfoilers go when winter swell calls and the long-haul flight does not.
Plan this tripSeason
October to April for consistent Atlantic swell; rideable year-round
Best months
November to March
Level
Intermediate to advanced. You should be comfortable riding a foil behind a ski and reading reef setups; sessions are matched to your level.
The water
Conditions
The north shore picks up long-period Atlantic swell from October through April, breaking over volcanic reef and open beach breaks. Faces are long and well organized, with enough wall for extended rides between tow-ins. Water stays mild all year, so a 3/2 covers you in the depths of winter. On smaller days the reefs still produce clean, foil-friendly energy that a surfboard could not use.
Who it's for
Is this your trip?
Towfoilers based in Europe who want reliable winter swell without long-haul travel. Ideal as a standalone week, or as the alternative when our own Portugal retreat weeks are full.

Our take
Why we love it
- ◆ Consistent Atlantic swell from October to April, right when Europe goes cold
- ◆ Volcanic reefs and beach breaks give options on almost any swell size
- ◆ Four-hour flights from most of Europe, no jet lag, mild water year-round
- ◆ A quiet, small foil scene: uncrowded lineups and flexible local sessions
- ◆ Works as a first tow trip or a winter training block between retreats
The foil scene here centers on Lajares and Corralejo, with a small circle of operators running camps and tow sessions largely on request rather than fixed schedules. We confirm current availability for your dates before anything is booked.
